LA Times front page feature on Payahuunadü Tribes unresolved federally reserved water rights

Read Ian James’ Los Angeles Times October 18th, front page feature illuminating how the City of Los Angeles, aided by the federal government, continues to deny the federally reserved water rights of the sovereign Tribes of Payahuunadü, “the land of flowing water.” In early fall 2025, There It Is—Take It! project director, Kim Stringfellow was a signatory to the letter mentioned in James’ reporting, organized by Dr. Sophia Borgias, who has worked extensively with the Owens Valley Indian Water Commission on this critical issue. If you’d like to read the letter, I’m providing a link here.
